Direct marketing is a type of marketing communication based on direct personal communication with the recipient of the message or the business-to-business client for the purpose of building relationships and gaining profit. Direct marketing is based on treating the client as an individual, allows for feedback and does not involve middlemen in the communication chain.


Direct marketing by mail includes direct mailing of promotional materials, product samples, brochures and other “mobile salesmen” to a list of potential buyers (by e-mail, fax, voice mail).
